What Type of Exercise is Best to Start with?

Welcome to Strong and Balanced

Let me start by introducing myself and what this blog will be about. My name is Jennifer Mattiello-Egan. I am a Chiropractor as well as a Personal Trainer, Yoga Instructor and Pilates Instructor. I will be using this blog to help inform, motivate and advise on healthy exercise habits as well as healthy lifestyle tips.

What Type of Exercise is Best  to Start With?
I get asked this question often. The answer I give is always the same. “Whatever exercise program you will stick to is what you should start with. Your body likes consistency.”

There are many forms of exercise out there and they are not all a “one size fits all” sort of thing. Some people love to run, it feels good to them, and  produces  the results they are looking for. Others find running downright painful and the chance of them starting a running program never mind sticking with a running program is very slim. This does not mean they  should  not  exercise, they just need to find something that is more agreeable to their body. Maybe Walking or something like Yoga or Pilates would be a better place to start. Now keep in mind that walking is a cardiovascular activity whereas yoga and pilates are usually not. That is a discussion for another time. So to start just keep in mind….”What would feel good to my body and what will I be able to stick to?” Because at the end of the day ANY exercise is better than NO exercise at all. And once you begin it is easier to keep a body moving than it is to get it to start. Start with a form of exercise that feels good to you and once you start to feel better add another  type into your routine. That’s it for now. If you have any questions do not hesitate to reach out.
Be well and get moving!!
