What Time of Day is Best to Exercise

When trying to fit Exercise into a daily routine, people often wonder " what time of day is best to exercise". There really is no hard and fast rule that one time of day is better than another. It's as much a personal preference as the type of exercise you choose is.

However, morning workouts usually tend to wake you up, and get your body energized for the day. Also, doing cardio first thing in the morning before you eat can play into that "fasted cardio" theory that you will burn fat during your workout as you fasted overnight. Thing is, this only lasts for a few weeks and then your body figures out what you are doing and it might not work as well.

There is some research that says that working out in the late afternoon is great because your body temperature is elevated, and your joints are more mobile and ready for movement. It is also when testosterone levels peak. Testosterone is the hormone responsible for building muscle.

Contrary to popular belief there is no research proving that exercising at night is bad for you. Many people believe it will prevent them from getting a good night sleep. Research actually shows that those who participated in a P.M. Workout slept soundly.

Truth is, everyone is different and some will say early morning exercise revs them up for the day. While others say that because they woke up at an "ungodly" hour  to exercise they are tired all day. Some people find that late night workouts wind them up and it's not that they get a bad nights sleep it is a problem falling asleep. This cutting into their sleep time.

With all that said, most research has shown that those with consistent exercise programs do it in the morning. It might not be the participants favorite time of the day, but it gets done. When waiting to exercise later in the day other responsibilities get in the way and many other things can pop up causing you to push exercise aside. So my advice is get out of bed and get it done. You will be happy that you did ( once it's all done of course).
